It is estimated that 0.65 tonnes of raw Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) is produced for every ton of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). In recent times, stringent environmental protection regulations have been put in place by local authorities. In Malaysia, policy mandates methane capturing or methane avoidance as means to protect the environment, as well as stringent Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) limit and even effluent color cap per American Dye Manufacturer Institute (ADMI) standards. To remain competitive, millers have to find the most cost effective and sustainable solution to deal with this harmful pollutant. Continuously adding effluent ponds is just not the answer.
Palm Oil Mill Effluent evaporation (POMEvap) technology
POMEvap is most attractive to those who are looking for methane avoidance as a compliance method. Combining the big benefits of Alfa Laval’s evaporation and separation, raw POME is distilled into solid concentrate which can further recover the last drop of oil and produce colourless liquid distillate meeting both ADMI color standard and BOD of approximately 20 ppm.
Alfa Laval POMEvap benefits
- Helps you to achieve methane avoidance compliance
- Improve your plant's OER up to 0.35%
- Output meets < 20 ppm BOD and < 100 ADMI colour standard
- Is a non-biological process
- Is simple and cost effective.
Waste decanter module for POME
Alfa Laval also designs and supplies solutions based on decanters for dewatering palm oil mill effluent (POME) and de-sludging of anaerobic ponds. The waste decanter module system can be designed to be mobilized from site to site, which helps customer to save footprint and installation cost. With high centrifugal force, decanter produces a dryer solid compares to other technology, which translates to lower disposal cost. The total cost of ownership is competitive considering the capital cost, maintenance cost, polymer consumption, utilities, cake disposal cost, especially when it involves higher capacity of POME.
